The posture is inserted as a main notion in our problematic. It is examined in the lighting designer: subject of the research. This dissertation is an introspective study of the lighting designer as a professional and relational posture. The goal is to work towards a better relationship with the nocturnal world.
The tree of reflection and introspection branches out into two chapters: the hybrid posture on the one hand and the resonant posture on the other.
Hybridity is a central notion of our current experience. We live in a late modernity ; a world in acceleration and in constant evolution, where to show adaptability is an to multiple forms of existence. The study of the hybrid posture poses the key question: who is the lighting designer? A multidisciplinary professional. He is at the same time technician, engineer and plastic artist. He shapes light through a mutation of approaches and practices. From Similarly, he implements lighting projects through collaboration. This is a vector of crossbreeding. We will observe the hybrid posture of the lighting designer through various case studies, mainly based on my personal experience.
Light pollution, the scourge of our era appears regularly as an issue in the profession, opens the reflection on the the resonant posture of the lighting designer. The conception of light is confronted with its own contradiction, the dissonance with the nocturnal world, because it produces « a diurnalization of the night ». For us, the nocturnal world is defined by the urban world with its components and rhythms and, in parallel, on the scale of Nature and the «starry» sky.
How does the lighting designer position himself in relation to the dissonance that his profession has with the night world ?
Does he question the ethics of his profession? To answer this question, we rely on the concept of Resonance, by the German sociologist Hartmut Rosa, a critical theory of society. We adopt it to weave the resonant posture of the lighting designer.
With the help of hybrid and resonant postures, the lighting designer can elaborate relational systems to build a better relationship to the nocturnal world.
