Ce mémoire a pour but de comprendre, à travers l'étude de témoignages autobiographiques et d'histoire orale de quatre femmes sioux activistes dans la deuxième moitié du vingtième siècle, comment la culture, l'histoire, et la société dominante des Etats-Unis ont représenté et aliéné ces femmes, et l'impact que ceci a eu sur le développement de leurs identités de femmes autochtones.

Résumé

Through the study of autobiographies and oral history interviews of four Sioux women living during the second half of the twentieth century, this thesis has sought to understand how dominant American culture, history, and society have misrepresented and alienated these women, and the impact this had on their own identity building as American Indian women.
