Le Red Power Movement est défini par les historiens comme un mouvement pour les droits civiques amérindiens, initié en 1969 par l'occupation de l'île d'Alcatraz. Ce mémoire propose l'étude des lois fédérales éducatives pour la population amérindienne de 1924 (année d'obtention de la citoyenneté états-unienne pour tous les amérindiens) jusqu'en 1969, ainsi que l'étude de l'évolution du militantisme amérindien durant cette même période, afin de vérifier l'hypothèse selon laquelle un rapport de pouvoir colonial avait toujours cours aux Etats-Unis. Le cas échéant, le Red Power Movement pourrait être défini comme un mouvement de décolonisation.

Résumé

Scholars define the Red Power Movement as a civil right movement, initiated in 1969 with the occupation of Alcatraz island. This thesis offers to study the educational federal laws geared to Native American peoples from 1924 (the year all Native Americans were granted the United States citizenship) to 1969, as well as the study of the evolution of Native activism during that timeframe, in order to test the hypothesis according to which a colonial power dynamic persisted in the United States. If so, the Red Power Movement could be reframed as a decolonisation struggle.
