- Our study is focused on Joyce’s literary shift from realism to experimentalism in Dubliners and A Portrait and on how this evolution is related to the notion of social paralysis. We will attempt to show what language and the narrative can reveal about the author’s thesis, mostly through the process of identification of the reader with the characters and the different types of epiphanies embedded in these works.
