    • Démarche volontaire et engagée, fruit d’une résistance face à un système souvent impersonnel et aliénant, c’est en choisissant de construire eux-mêmes leur maison que les auto-constructeurs affirment leur capacité à prendre en main leur destin. L’auto-construction apparaît comme bien plus qu’une simple méthode de construction. En offrant la possibilité de se libérer des normes conventionnelles, d’acquérir des compétences et des connaissances, de retrouver une connexion avec son environnement et de s’affirmer dans sa singularité, elle ouvre la voie à de nouvelles formes de liberté et de réalisation de soi. Comment, à travers l’objet d’une maison, d’une cabane, d’une yourte, d’une tiny house ou d’un camion aménagé, la démarche d’auto-construire permet-elle de se construire soi-même ? Comment expliquer le lien entre la création d’un foyer et la création d’un nouveau soi ? L’acquisition de nouveaux champs de compétences et la possibilité de nouveaux échanges permettent-elles de s’émanciper ? Et si oui, de quoi ? Auto-construire, comment est-ce aussi s’auto-construire ?
    • My dissertation issue is about self-building as a conveyer of emancipation. Emancipation addresses several issues such as financial ones, social challenges, acquiring skills, freedom, relationship to time, consumption, professionnal life, environmental concerns. The subject also contains the question of alternative housing and different ways to live. I analysed how the strategies implemented in a self-building allows you to emancipate yourself from standards, while revisiting and renewing them, or to integrate into another form of system. How, through the object of a house, a cabin, a yurt, a tiny house or a converted truck, does the self-build approach allow you to build yourself? How to explain the link between creation of a home and the creation of a new self? The acquisition of new fields of skills and the possibility of new exchanges make it possible to emancipate yourself ? And if so, from what? How is self-construction also building ourself ? To achieve our goal, I conducted interviews with differents selfbuilders, who told me about their project, their budget, the skills they had acquired, etc. Thanks to these meetings, I was able to see that with a different budget and a different education, everyone was able to design a project that would provide them with shelter, in a form of housing that suited them.
