- La spécificité des familles adoptives révèle la rencontre de deux univers relationnels distincts qui, malgré leur séparation temporelle existent simultanément dans la réalité actuelle. L’adoption internationale constitue en cela un cas paradigmatique d’interculturation, concept central de la psychologie du contact de cultures. L’objectif principal de cette recherche est de comprendre pourquoi, chez les mères françaises qui adoptent à l’international, la façon dont elles organisent l’hétérogénéité du contexte culturel de leur enfant varie considérablement : trois postures parentales se dessinent, allant du rejet de la pluralité culturelle, passant par sa revendication, jusqu’à l’ajustement selon la demande de l’enfant. Leurs modes d’appréhension de la différence culturelle, leur rapport à la culture, leur sensibilité interculturelle et leur degré d’empathie sont hypothétiquement avancés comme autant de facteurs susceptibles de déterminer cette posture parentale. En nous appuyant sur une approche quantitative et qualitative, nous avons appliqué un questionnaire (N=63) et réalisé des entretiens semi-directifs (N=6) auprès de mères qui ont adopté un enfant à l’international. Les résultats indiquent qu’il n’existe pas de lien direct entre la façon dont les mères adoptives appréhendent la différence culturelle et leur organisation de l’hétérogénéité culturelle ; leur attitude générale valorise la pluralité culturelle, mais dans la sphère familiale, elles adoptent le plus souvent une posture quelquefois défensive mais surtout attentiste, privilégiant l’intégration dans la culture d’accueil. Il se dégage ainsi deux formes d’interculturalité : l’interculturalité de principe, affichée dans le discours social, et une interculturalité concrète, intime et modulée dans l’éducation. Il a été mis également en évidence le rôle des mères, en tant que médiatrices culturelles, porteuses d’une interculturation intériorisée, cachée, soutenant la construction identitaire de l’enfant à travers un tissage narratif singulier.

- The specificity of adoptive families reveals the meeting of two distinct relational universes which, despite their temporal separation, exist simultaneously in current reality. International adoption constitutes a paradigmatic case of interculturation, as a central concept in the psychology of culture contact. The main objective of this research is to understand why, among french mothers who adopt internationally, the way in which they organize the heterogeneity of their child's cultural context varies considerably: three parental postures emerge, ranging from the rejection of cultural plurality, through its demand, to adjustment according to the child's request. Their modes of apprehension of the cultural difference, their relation to culture, their intercultural sensitivity and their degree of empathy are hypothetically put forward as factors likely to determine this parental posture. Using a quantitative and qualitative approach, we applied a questionnaire (N=63) and conducted semi-structured interviews (N=6) with mothers who adopted a child internationally. The results indicate that there is no direct link between the way adoptive mothers understand cultural difference and their organization of cultural heterogeneity; their general attitude values cultural plurality, but in the family sphere, they most often adopt a sometimes defensive but above all wait-and-see posture, favoring integration into the host culture. Two forms of interculturality thus emerge: interculturality of principle, displayed in social discourse, and a concrete, intimate and modulated interculturality in education. The role of mothers, as cultural mediators, bearers of an internalized, hidden interculturation, supporting the identity construction of the child through a singular narrative weaving, was also highlighted.
