The Rebecca Riots: Fathoming the Welsh Movement as a Microcosm of Nineteenth-Century Welsh Society This study of the Rebecca riots inquires into the rioters' grievances and their use of pre-industrial and institutional means of protest, as the latter was revealing of the numerous clashes between customs and industrialisation within the Welsh working class. The particular focus on the different protests of the early-nineteenth century establishes the hybrid dimension of the riots, whereas analysing the changes in gender and mores underway in the nineteenth century highlights the correlation between women's declining recognition within society and the decreasing importance of pre-industrial protests.

Policy approaches to tackling illicit activities in contemporary Britain, the example of pharmaceutical crime. In 2007, more than two million doses of counterfeit medicines entered the British legal supply chain and some were even dispensed to patients. This case raised general awareness of health authorities, not only in the United Kingdom, but also in the other European countries as the 72 000 packs were medicines generally prescribed to treat diseases such as prostate cancer, heart troubles or schizophrenia. Until then, it was believed that fake medicines were solely found in the least developed countries or that, in developed countries, they involved “lifestyle drugs” such as slimming pills or erectile dysfunction treatment. This case showed that “life-saving” medicines distributed in the European Union were also at risk and brought into the limelight the powers of an original structure, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), a health agency endowed with law enforcement powers. Since 2007, the MHRA has taken the lead in the European coordination against fake medicine trafficking and plays a major role at international level. It is often cited as a model to follow in terms of public policies against pharmaceutical crime. This success is a good example of the United Kingdom’s global strategy to promote its interests and policies within the European Union. In order to study the original public policy conducted by the United Kingdom to tackle pharmaceutical crime, it was necessary to examine beforehand the crime policies implemented in contemporary Britain and their theoretical framework.

Regionalism and Universalism in Flannery O'Connor's Complete Stories This dissertation will seek to study the interaction between the recognizable and the unrecognizable, which stems from a reflection on the balance between regionalism and universalism. While the former focuses on a specific area characterized by its people, culture and topography, the latter encapsulates the whole world without acknowledging the boundaries inherent to the concept of region. O'Connor was interested in the region of the soul, what lies deep into human consciousness, but nonetheless used the South as a setting and emphasized its importance via the omnipresence of its language and cultural aspects. This study will therefore analyze the region of the recognizable and the region of the unrecognizable in O'Connor's short stories compiled in Complete Stories which contains the pieces she wrote for the completion her master's degree (1947), A Good Man is Hard to Find (1955) and Everything that Rises Must Converge (1965).

Intersensoriality & synaesthesia in
Blade Runner (1982), Minority Report (2002),

Building a Media Image: The Political Strategies of Nigel Farage during the 2015 General Election Campaign This dissertation studies the particular context of the 2015 British General Election and more specifically the electoral campaign of Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP). His official campaign began with the introduction of the UKIP manifesto on April 15th 2015 during his speech in Thurrock, Essex. However, before the official launching of the manifesto, Nigel Farage was in a phase known as “pre campaign period” during the first months of 2015. This was a period when he made appearances and addresses about the general election as an unofficial candidate. It can be defined as part of the electoral campaign of a candidate or of a party since the candidate sets the basis of the campaign through speeches, appearances in the media (e.g. TV shows, radio broadcasts or newspaper articles). Thus, this work studies the campaign from the first months of 2015 to the end of the official campaign, on 7th May 2015.

The relationships between the United States and Iran since 9/11: Misperceptions, Prejudices, and Negotiations In late 2015 and early 2016, the relationship between the United States and Iran returned to the front scene after an unprecedented deal over Iran’s nuclear program was reached between the two countries. Even though it did not aim at resolving all differences with Iran, it was the first time in decades such a “unique” opportunity was created. It had been long-awaited, and the negotiations were quite rough. In fact, it was not just a “nuclear deal”; instead, it finally gave concrete hopes and prospects for change, especially for the potential crisis recovery in the Middle East. It is certainly true that the United States and Iran are not dependent on each other in any forms, since they have been isolated from one another for nearly three decades without being held back by it. Nevertheless, the possibility of a smoothen relationship between the two countries can be deemed strongly needed or even necessary in regards to the Middle East peace process. As Madeleine Albright put it: “Iran’s strategic location, cultural influence and size made it a pivotal state in one of the world’s most combustible regions.” The present work will thus analyze the intricate nature of the relationship between the United States and Iran as a means to explore the issues involved and their implications in a more global perspective.

CANADIAN ECOCRITICISM AND THE WORKS OF MARGARET ATWOOD:
STATE OF THE ART AND CASE STUDY Margaret Atwood is an important figure in Canadian ecocriticism. Defined as the study of the relationship between literature and the natural environment, ecocriticism is a field of study which has long been monopolized by American critics. It is only from the second half of the twenty-first century that Canadian critics stood up and attempted to provide their country with a voice of itself. Canada’s natural landscape, its most obviously spectacular and significant trait, provided authors and artists with a strong basis for a new national identity. Margaret Atwood was one of the first major authors to express this identity in her work. She viewed Canadian wilderness as hostile and mysterious, bringing humans to a state of constant survival. More than that, she highlighted the unbalanced relationship between humans and nature, oscillating between fascination and rejection of a fearful and primitive landscape, thus creating divided identities, at the national and individual levels. My work focuses on one of Atwood's short story called "Death by Landscape", in which she personifies the canadian divided identities into the characters of Lois and Lucy. Through a complex psychological analysis embedded in numerous narrative layers, Atwood analyzes the canadian relationship to nature, but also enlarges the scope of her message. With her literature, she works towards a reconnection of human beings with their inner natural self, so that they reach harmony with the environment instead of harming it with deeply rooted thoughts and actions.
